The Studio

Owned and operated by Drew Wildermuth, and established in 2013. King Kraken Studios is a modern home based recording facility that offers high quality recording, mixing, mastering, and post production services.

Drew Wildermuth is an audio enthusiast, and has an Audio Production Degree from Mesa Community College as well as a Bachelor's Degree in University Studies (Electronic Media and Film, and Audio Production) from Northern Arizona University.

The studio has one dedicated recording room with acoustic treatment. Since space is limited, to achieve the highest quality, instruments will be recorded separate or a few at a time to a metronome or scratch tracks.
Here are a few of the Studio's go to pieces of gear:

The RME interface is the heart of the studio and is used in every session. It can currently record 14 tracks simultaneously at 96kHz and has pristine AD/DA converters. It's software mixer make routing tracks a breeze and currently eliminating the need for a patchbay.

If the RME is the heart, then Pro Tools would be the brain of the studio. Avid's Pro Tools 11 is the 'Digital Audio Workstation' that King Kraken Studios uses on every session: recording, mixing or mastering. It is the industry standard and is an amazing tool for audio production. Never miss a punch in with Pro Tools; Audio clips can be dragged after recording to deliver the cleanest punches.

iZotope, IK Multimedia, Fab Filter, Waves, Positive Grid, Celemony, Slate Digital, UVI, Native Instruments are just a few of the plugins that can be loaded onto tracks within Pro Tools.

The Warm Audio 'Tone Beast' is the studio's 1st choice for a preamp. The Tone Beast allows you to chose which op amp, capacitors, and transformer to create tracks that range from crystal clear to warm or vintage.

The Warm Audio 1176 compressor is often used as well, if nothing more that to color the signal with it's CineMag transformer.

The Warm Audio EQP-WA is an amazing equalizer modeled after a Pultec EQ. It also can be used just for coloration, with it's CineMag transformers and 12AX7 and 12AU7 tubes.

The Studio's go to microphone would have to be a tie between the Shure SM7B and the Blue Baby Bottle. Although these microphones have very different frequency responses, both of these are very clear and sound amazing.

That's all the studio go to gear. Other gear and brand used at King Kraken Studios are:

Peavey, Aphex, AKG, Shure, Oktava, Gauge Audio, GLS Audio, Focusrite, M-Audio, Celestion, Seymour Duncan, EMG, LTD, DBZ, Yamaha, Takamine, Nady, Sennheiser, Maxon, ISP, and Radial
